Knowledge Management Vision and Approach
Â鶹´«Ã½ Technology Bank for the Least Developed Countries (UNTB) is a global institution dedicated to strengthening science, technology, and innovation (STI) in the world’s 44 Least Developed Countries (LDCs). Established by the UN General Assembly in 2016 and reinforced by the 2022 Doha Programme of Action, UNTB serves as the key UN institution supporting LDCs to leverage technology and innovation for economic transformation and sustainable development.
UNTB's core mandate is to:
Enhance LDCs’ STI capacity by promoting technology adoption, innovation, and effective management of intellectual property.
Support the formulation and implementation of national and regional STI strategies to strengthen policy coherence and institutional capacity.
Foster inclusive STI partnerships and cooperation, including public–private and cross-country collaborations among LDCs and with other nations.
Facilitate access to and transfer of appropriate technologies, ensuring their effective use and sustainable integration into local systems.
In January 2025, the UNTB Council approved the Strategic Plan 2025–2027: Delivering Results for the Least Developed Countries, which emphasizes achieving results and greater impact around UNTB’s core mandate, and outlines key initiatives to strengthen STI capacities, facilitate technology transfer, and promote sustainable development across LDCs.
Through an effective KM strategy that enables LDCs to access relevant knowledge and expertise, connect with leading research and development institutions (R&DI) on priority technology needs, and find key STI stakeholders and partners to support capacity building, technology transfer, and financing, UNTB can help bridge the STI divide, turn knowledge into effective action and innovation into greater impact for LDCs.
The Knowledge Management strategy of UNTB is tailored to support the core mandate of UNTB, taking into consideration its value proposition, current as well as anticipated resource availability, and the key development outcomes and programme objectives of the new Strategic Plan 2025-2027.
