Peter Elias holds a Ph.D. in Geography from the University of Ibadan and is a Professor of Development Geography in the Department of Geography, University of Lagos. Peter is the Co-Director, Centre for Housing and Sustainable Development (CHSD). He presently serves as the Co-Chair CODATA WDS Task Group on Citizen Science Data for the SDGs and the West African Coordinator, Citizen Science Africa Association. He has almost two decades of teaching, research, and consultancy experiences in science-policy-society orientation.

He has won several international and cross-disciplinary research project with funding from the Wellcome Trust Foundation (Climate Awards – 2025-2027), Mastercard Foundation (EAT – 2025-2026), African Cities Research Consortium (Action Research for Climate Resilience – 2025-2026), Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (Ideamaps Data Ecosystem -2022-2026); Fondation Botnar (UrbanBetter Cityzens – 2024-2026), Global Disaster Preparedness Center (Utilization of Community Heat Early Warning Systems in Informal Settlements– 2023-2024); Volvo Research and Educational Foundation (Critical Thinking and Writing Short Courses for Postgraduate Students in Africa- 2022-2-23); International Science Council (ISC)/Network of African Science Academies (NASAC) LIRA 2030 (City-level Data-Gathering for Agenda 2030 – 2017-2020); UKRI GCRF/Digital Innovation for Development in Africa (IDEAMAPS Network -2020-2021), UKRI GCRF SHLC Capacity Development (Green Infrastructure in Informal Neighbourhoods – 2019), and South Africa National Research Foundation COVID-19 (Giving Voices to Slums amid Covid-19 – 2020-2022), among others.

Peter is the Editor-in-Chief, The Nigerian Journal of Business and Social Sciences (NJBSS) and Guest Editor, Special Collection: “Citizen Science for Evidence-based Policy and Decision Making in Citizen Science Theory and Practice.
