In 2025, the United Nations Peacebuilding Commission (PBC) marks 20 years of advancing sustainable peace and building partnerships to support countries emerging from conflict. To commemorate this milestone, the current Chair of the Peacebuilding Commission, Germany, together with DPPA's Peacebuilding Support Office, is organizing a visual exhibition at United Nations Headquarters.
The exhibition will celebrate the PBC¡¯s unique role as a platform for advisory, bridging, and convening roles in support of nationally-owned priorities and efforts in the countries and regions on its agenda It will highlight key achievements across the PBC¡¯s journey, showcase peacebuilding impact on the ground, and draw attention to the 20-year milestone.
Coinciding with Peacebuilding Day on 23 June, the exhibition will run from 16 to 27 June 2025 at the Curved Wall in the UNHQ Delegates' Area (Conference Building level 1).
The 2005 World Summit Outcome endorsed Kofi Annan¡¯s recommendation for the establishment of the Peacebuilding Commission to address critical gaps in reconstruction, and peacebuilding efforts. On 20 December 2005, General Assembly resolution A/60/180 and Security Council resolution 1645 established the PBC as an advisory body. The identical resolutions also established the peacebuilding architecture, composed of the Peacebuilding Commission, the Secretary-General's Peacebuilding Fund and the Peacebuilding Support Office.
The Peacebuilding Commission (PBC) is an intergovernmental advisory body to the General Assembly and the Security Council that supports peace efforts in conflict-affected countries and is a key addition to the capacity of the International Community in the broad peace agenda.
It is composed of 31 Member States, elected from the General Assembly, the Security Council, and the Economic and Social Council. The top financial contributing countries and the top troop-contributing countries to the United Nations system are also members.
The Peacebuilding Support Office of the Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (DPPA), provides substantive and technical support to the Peacebuilding Commission.
